Highway Patrol warns of donation requests

The Nevada Highway Patrol is warning Nevadans not to donate to a group that is calling and asking for donations to assist the family of fallen trooper Kara Kelly-Borgognone.

There is no telephone solicitation being done by the Highway Patrol, Department of Public Safety or the Department of Public Safety Association, according to trooper Kevin Honea.

If you are contacted by the group, officials encourage you to get a phone number from the group or request the group send a donation form in the mail. If you receive either, please report it.

Anyone with information can contact the Nevada Department of Public Safety at 432-5205.

Kelly-Borgognone died on Feb. 28 after being critically injured in an automobile accident three days earlier.
