GAME NIGHT NOTES 3/21/08

Alaska Aces (38-22-5, 81 Points) at Las Vegas Wranglers® (41-12-12, 94 Points) Tonight the Wranglers and Aces meet for the sixth time this season and the 38th meeting overall. Las Vegas is 1-1-3 against Alaska this season and 20-13-4 all-time. The Wranglers were shutout by Alaska 3-0 on Thursday night. Las Vegas is 21-5-6 at home this season and 6-2-2 in the last ten games played overall. Alaska is 17-14-1 on the road this year and 8-2-0 in the last ten games played.

Last Time Out
Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas Wranglers were shutout by the Alaska Aces 3-0 on Thursday night in front of 4,386 fans at the Orleans Arena. Alaska's Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped all 29 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season with the Aces. Forwards F.P. Guenette, Josh Soares and Bo Cheesman each scored in the Alaska win.

Wranglers Roundup
Right wing Peter Ferraro (32 goals) is within striking range of the team record for most goals in one season. Center Matt Dzieduszycki owns the team record after scoring 34 goals in 68 games during the 2005-06 season. Las Vegas has seven games remaining on the season with four of them at home. In order for the Wranglers to become the only team in ECHL history with three straight 100-point seasons, they must earn six points out of a possible 14 (.426 winning percentage). Las Vegas is 21-10-8 over the last 38 games. The Wranglers are 2-5 in overtimes and 4-7 in shootouts this season. The Wranglers magic number to clinch the National Conference and Pacific Division sits at nine. Las Vegas leads Fresno by 10 points. Fresno will host Bakersfield tonight and Saturday. The Falcons have nine games remaining, including six at Save Mart Center. The Wranglers visit Fresno next Friday.

Roster Report – Mosienko Called Up, Miller and Jorgensen Added
Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas Wranglers announced on Thursday the signing of rookie defenseman Jim Jorgensen. The team announced Tuesday that center Tyler Mosienko has been signed by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. The team also announced on Tuesday the signing of rookie forward Adam Miller.

Jorgensen joins the Wranglers after four seasons at Ferris State University. For his college career, the Sault Ste. Marie native posted 30 assists and 38 points in 114 games. The 6-foot, 200-pounder defender also racked up 54 penalty minutes. As a sophomore in 2005-06, Jorgensen set collegiate highs and was the team's leading scorer among defensemen with 15 assists and 16 points in 32 games.

Miller made his pro debut Tuesday against the Aces after wrapping up a four-year stint at Ferris State University. In 2007-08, Miller's senior season, the forward finished second on the team with 17 assists, 25 points and 104 shots on net in 36 games played. The 6-foot, 185-pound center finished his college career with 30 goals and 47 assists for 77 points in 146 NCAA contests.

Mosienko was second on the team in scoring with 57 points and 35 assists. Mosienko leaves with a seven-game scoring streak intact. In 134 games as a Wrangler, Mosienko has posted 40 goals and 69 assists for 109 points. The called up to Bridgeport marks his first stint in the AHL.

Defensemen Gerry Burke, Brad Cole and Gord Baldwin remain in the AHL with Quad City. Rookie center Curtis Fraser remains with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. Defenseman Tyson Strachan still is in the American Hockey League with the Peoria Rivermen. Defenseman Jason Jozsa also remains on recall to Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Center Chris Ferraro, defenseman Sean Owens and left wing Shawn Limpright all remain on the injured reserve. Owens has been skating with the team for over a week and is expected to return soon. Limpright remains out until late April. Ferraro is out indefinitely.

Green and Alaska Roll Into Vegas
Alaska is 9-3-0 in its last 12 road games and 17-3-0 in its last 20 games overall. Forward Josh Soares leads the team in scoring with 33 goals and 43 assists for 76 points in 54 games played. He is second in scoring among all ECHL rookies and carries a ten-game scoring streak into tonight's game. The Aces feature defenseman Lee Green, who started his career with Las Vegas in 2005-06. Green was traded from Las Vegas to Reading in January of 2007. Green played in 89 games with Las Vegas, posting 14 assists and 18 points, to go along with 155 penalty minutes. The Aces have killed off 19 of 22 Las Vegas power plays (91%) this season. The Aces are 24-2-2 when scoring the first goal of the night.

Goalies Chris Beckford-Tseu and Mike Brown split time between the pipes for Alaska. Beckford-Tseu last played against the Wranglers during the 2005-06 Kelly Cup Playoffs, leading the Aces past Las Vegas and on to win the Kelly Cup. Beckford-Tseu was 8-3 with three shutouts, a 2.04 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in the 2006 playoffs. He has spent the majority of the season in Peoria of the AHL and also played a game with the NHL's St. Louis Blues earlier this season. Beckford-Tseu is 33-3-2 in 38 appearances with Alaska over the last three years.
