FISHING REPORT

* LAKE MEAD -- Catfish and small stripers have been biting near Government Wash, Sand Island and 33 Hole. Anglers willing to walk also have been taking cats from the shoreline at Gypsum Wash. Two stripers weighing 7 and nearly 10 pounds were caught at Saddle Cove over the weekend. Trolling has been producing striped bass for fishermen in the Overton Arm near Stewart's Point and the islands south of Echo Bay. Trout anglers found slow action following the weekly Nevada Department of Wildlife trout plant. The last plant this spring will take place Friday.

* LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing activity and success recently has surged at Willow Beach south of Hoover Dam. After weeks of slow fishing, anglers have reeled in striped bass weighing as much as 32 pounds. Good striper fishing has been reported as far south as Aztec Wash and Placer Cove. Spinners and PowerBait have been taking stocked rainbow trout.

Anglers report striper fishing is fair to poor out of Cottonwood Cove. Trolling with prepared bait has taken a few striped bass. Largemouth bass have been caught in 20 to 30 feet of water with watermelon and pumpkinseed colored rubber worms fished drop-shot style.

* LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Earlier this week, NDOW stocked rainbow trout in the ponds for the last time this spring. The ponds at Floyd Lamb Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City all have been fishing well and should continue to do so into April. NDOW will begin stocking catfish for the warm-water fishing season in the coming weeks.

* LAUGHLIN -- Trout anglers are finding success for planter rainbows along the Colorado River with spinners, PowerBait and worms. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery plants fish on a regular basis. Fishing on the southern end of Lake Mohave has been slow, but the largemouth bass are becoming more active. Anglers have been catching the fish in 20 to 30 feet of water by using a drop-shot rig with rubber worms in watermelon and pumpkinseed colors.

* EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers will find open water as the ice is melting fast. Any remaining ice is considered unsafe. Fishing has been slow, though anglers are catching trout on PowerBait or worms.

* ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing isn't fast, but anglers have been catching bass and trout. The reservoir is full. For bass and crappie, try the narrows in the upper end of the lake. Trout will take small spinners, worms and PowerBait.

* KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Fishing at this Nye County management area has improved. The best action has been on Haymeadow Reservoir for anglers of all disciplines. Cold Springs and Adams-McGill should clear up in the next week or so, and the fishing will get even better.

* COMINS LAKE -- The lake still is iced up, but some water is open around the edges. With daytime temperatures warming, the ice should be gone in another couple of weeks. Pike will be active right away, but any trout that are left won't become particularly active until the water warms.
