Woman accused of dumping dog

GARDNERVILLE -- A Gardnerville woman accused of abandoning her dog on a rural road so she could travel to Spain has been arrested.

According to the criminal complaint, Sabrina Lohr turned her Great Dane mix called Rocket loose on Pinenut Road, where he wandered for 10 days until he was struck and killed by a car Nov. 23.

Lohr showed up more than a week earlier at the Douglas County Animal Shelter and reportedly said she would dump the dog if the shelter didn't take him, the complaint alleges. She said she was leaving for two weeks in Spain, and Rocket didn't get along with her other dog.

Lohr, 40, is scheduled to appear Monday in East Fork Justice Court to face charges of abandoning an animal, cruelty to an animal and dog at large.

If convicted, she faces up to a $1,000 fine and six months in jail on each charge.
