Mack files for sentencing delay

CARSON CITY -- A former Reno pawnshop owner has filed a last-minute petition with the Nevada Supreme Court to block his sentencing for killing his wife and shooting their divorce judge.

The petition filed by Darren Mack, represented by attorney William Routsis, follows a lower court judge's refusal to let Mack withdraw his pleas of guilty to murdering his wife, Charla, and the equivalent of no contest to attempted murder in the shooting of Family Court Judge Chuck Weller.

Mack, 46, faces sentencing Thursday and Friday in Reno. Under an earlier plea deal, prosecutors had agreed to recommend a sentence of life in prison with the earliest possible parole after 20 years. He also faces two to 20 years for attempted murder.
