14-year-old boy killed after Halloween party identified

A 14-year-old shot and killed walking home from a Halloween party last week was identified by authorities as Austin De'Arney of Las Vegas.

De'Arney was walking with a 15-year-old friend near Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when they noticed they were being followed by a vehicle.

A male, also in his teens, got out of the vehicle, robbed the two and asked for their gang affiliation. Witnesses said De'Arney told the robber he was in the hybrid gang "Squad Up." The assailant then fired several rounds, killing De'Arney. The other teen was unharmed.

Police have yet to identify any suspects in the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Las Vegas Homicide Unit at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
