Air show traffic to be heavy

People planning to attend this weekend's Aviation Nation air show at Nellis Air Force Base should expect heavy traffic all day.

Vehicles can park for free at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. From the speedway parking lot, show attendees must pay a $3 round-trip bus fare ($1 for children under 10; babies and toddlers not requiring a seat ride free) to the base.

Air show attendees also can take Las Vegas Boulevard North to the speedway but should note that there will be limited parking at that entrance.

A special Citizens Area Transit bus route also will be running for the air show. The fare will be $3 each way and transit passes will not be accepted. The buses will run every 30 minutes from the Downtown Transportation Center to the speedway from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Return buses will continue through 5 p.m.

The air show begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and is free to the public.

The speedway parking lot opens at 7 a.m., but buses to the base don't begin running until 7:45 a.m.

More than 200,000 people are expected to attend, organizers said.
