51s fall short against Beavers

Royce Huffman hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the seventh inning Monday, lifting the Portland Beavers to a 6-4 victory over the Las Vegas 51s in the Pacific Coast League at Portland, Ore.

Huffman's go-ahead hit came after the 51s rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Delwyn Young led off with his 17th homer, Wilson Valdez added an RBI single and Luis Maza's two-run double capped the four-run rally.

Craig Stansberry played the biggest role in Portland's 4-0 lead, hitting a three-run homer in the first inning and scoring on Keoni Ruth's double in the fourth.

Reliever Brian Akin (0-1) took the loss for the 51s, who play the Beavers again at 7 p.m. today.
