Korn is colored by life, death

Jonathan Davis has always emoted like his foot was caught in a bear trap, and now his agony has an added, real-life dimension.

Last year, the Korn frontman was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder that nearly claimed his life. He has recovered, but his brush with death informs his band's untitled latest disc, adding a palpable urgency to galvanized, heavy metal pep talks such as "Hold On." Davis' pain is our gain.
