HORSE RACING

TODAY AT SANTA ANITA

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Mikey Bones - Beaten favorite last time is turning back in distance for the money shot; tactical speed to sit a nice trip.

L Misteriosa - Like the turn back in distance from a Fairplex route to an elongated sprint; made a good middle move in last.

Long Shot - Lady Sorceress

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $63,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Fiery Trippi - Headley barn has heated up since the middle of Del Mar; will improve in second start off a 5-month hiatus.

Call Or Raise - Logical chalk is taking the blinkers off today; Nakatani was impatient in last, expect a smarter ride today.

Long Shot - Tiztime

Race 3 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $400,000 Yellow Ribbon, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Nashoba's Key - She's undefeated, and for good reason; expect her to settle early, save ground, and come firing fast late.

Citronnade - She's missed a couple of starts so there is reason to think she may need the race; she must go wire to wire.

Long Shot - Black Mamba

Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $67,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Mi Arcobaleno - I usually don't pick MSW grads, but his race was smooth and professional; Blanc could have a big day today.

Joy's Comet - Tepid chalk must overcome a parking lot post and potential wide trip; improved a ton since joining West barn.

Long Shot - Choctaw Chief

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $42,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Oceanus - Clever claim by Sherman, one of the very best in the business; right off the bat he switches riders to Nakatani.

Iza General - Has won down the hillside turf course and is rolling down in class today; like the rider switch to Gryder.

Long Shot - Karn

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $63,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Vulcan - Star Trek fans must bet this FTS on a hunch; cost $600k at the Fasig Tipton 2-YO in training sale, must be a mover.

Copper Shadow - FTS from the Baffert baby barn; cost a ton of money, what a shock, and is working bullets, another shock.

Long Shot - Limestone Edge

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, $250,000 Oak Leaf, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Izarra - Of all the fillies in the race, she is bred the best for a 2-turn route; should see plenty of pace to rally into.

Set Play - Gusty filly is facing a tough test going long for the first time in her career; will see company on the front end.

Long Shot - P.S.U. Grad

Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf), Purse $65,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Sixcess - Will enjoy the turn back in distance going down the hill; he's probably proven a better late closing sprinter.

Global Heat - He's taken to the synthetic surfaces, now must excel on grass; he won going down the hill earlier this spring.

Long Shot - Ballistic Heat

Race 9 - 1 1/8th miles, $500,000 Goodwood Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Lewis Michael - Chicago shipper is a synthetic track master; tactical speed and inside post to sit a perfect trip and fire.

Tiago - I expect the Shirreffs barn to have him ready off a 3-month hiatus; he has the highest upside of any in the field.

Long Shot - Big Booster

Race 10 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $67,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Blake's Passion - Watch the replay to see how easy he won last time; Baze takes over, he does not need the lead to succeed.

Teeman - The pace was so slow last time, Blanc had to strangle him to take back; should see a better rating trip today.

Long Shot - Tent

Best Bet - Lewis Michael (race 9)

Santa Anita Friday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/3/$24.00; Long Shots, 8/1/$4.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.40

Santa Anita Totals - 46/12/$81.20; Long Shots, 24/3/$20.80; Best Bets, 3/1/$4.40
