Peers choose Bert Brown chief judge

Bert Brown has been chosen by his colleagues to be the Las Vegas Municipal Court's chief judge and will serve the remainder of that position's unexpired term, which ends June 30, 2009.

He replaces Municipal Judge Toy R. Gregory, who has been the court's chief judge since 2000. Gregory will continue his regular judicial duties.

The chief judge is responsible for the court's administrative affairs, setting trial dates and managing the court calendar. He is elected by the judges of the court's six departments.

Brown, a lifelong Las Vegas resident, was elected to the court in 1999.
