FISHING REPORT
December 27, 2007 - 10:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- High winds have broken up the Hemenway fishing pier and pushed the breakwater tires into shore.
A 25-pound striper was pulled in along the beach just north of what is left of the fishing pier.
Trout were planted Tuesday at B-5 Road, where anglers have reeled in striped bass ranging from 4 to 8 pounds.
In the Vegas Wash area, fishing has slowed compared with recent weeks, but anglers still are catching fish. Trout fishing has been slow.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing in the Willow Beach area has been slow for shore anglers and boaters in recent days. Those catching stocked trout have been casting spinners and flies near the hatchery outflow.
Boaters have been using shad patterns to reel in small stripers. Anglers casting large plugs and swimbaits are coming in empty-handed.
Still-fishing with cut bait and trolling have been productive near Cottonwood Cove. Shad are active. A trout plant is scheduled for today at Cottonwood Cove, Aztec Wash and Placer Cove.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- NDOW planted rainbow trout last week in preparation for the Christmas holiday. Anglers have found good action with stripers, flashy fly patterns and prepared baits.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Fishing pressure is light, but anglers have been pulling rainbow and tiger trout through 6 inches of ice. PowerBait and worms have been catching fish. Double check the ice conditions before walking out on the ice.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Ice is thin and conditions are unsafe.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Ice is thin and conditions are unsafe.
