Man booked in shooting death near Nellis base

Las Vegas police arrested a 45-year-old man early Thanksgiving Day in connection with a fatal shooting near Nellis Air Force Base.

Pierre Carl Bergere was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder with a deadly weapon.

Police arrested him after finding a dead man in an apartment at 4255 N. Nellis Blvd., near Las Vegas Boulevard. Officers went to the apartment about 4:45 a.m. after a man called 911 and said he accidentally had shot someone, police said.

Investigators believe that Bergere walked into a room and shot the victim for no apparent reason, homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said.

"It's not even close to being an accident," Roberts said. "It was an intentional act."

It appeared that the two men did not know each other and that the victim was visiting another resident of the apartment, he said.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
