Woman arrested in apartment fire

A woman set fire to an apartment during a domestic dispute Saturday morning, authorities said.

No one was hurt in the 5:24 a.m. blaze that caused about $42,000 worth of damage to the apartment at 323 N. 11th St., near Maryland Parkway and Stewart Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, flames were pouring out of a downstairs window.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in less than five minutes, keeping it from spreading to other units in the two-story brick building.

The fire gutted the man's bedroom and caused smoke and heat damage to the apartment, displacing the man, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

The woman, who was staying at the apartment, was detained by Las Vegas police. After being questioned by arson investigators, she was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

The woman, whom authorities would not identify, will be charged with one count of arson in the first degree, Szymanski said.
