HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Whatwerewethinking - Claimed by Mitchell at Del Mar, waited until Cushion track to run back; slight improvement can win this.
Sneaky Jack - Logical chalk has high cheese and good recent form off the claim by Hess; wide open race for this six-pack.
Long Shot - Honky Tonk Baby
Race 2 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up
New Export - Frankel horse won last time even though he ran far from his best; chance to step forward at a square price.
Red Fort - Logical chalk is suspicious on the drop as he is a proven, though 7-YO, stakes horse; expect a full claim box.
Long Shot - Rush Rush
Race 3 - 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Orientate Slew - Liked his debut when he was absolutely flying late; flattered when Street Boss ran a good second next out.
Informed - Set unbelievably slow fractions at Del Mar and still couldn't finish; he'll be favored and probably way overbet.
Long Shot - Classic Attire
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Happytodancwithyou - Has recent race at Fairplex going 7-furlongs, now is turniing back in distance; good tactical speed too.
Catinthepinkhat - Been away 3-months, but showed some talent before hitting the sidelines; need not be much to compete today.
Long Shot - Mt. Whitney
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds and up
Semi Lost - Rested 2-months by Mullins off a huge effort in the Claiming Crown; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip for Potts.
Westerly Magic - Dead late closer is exiting the best race of his career; key will be if he can pair up or if he bounces.
Long Shot - American Revolution
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Shes Got Skills - Been training in the obscurity of San Luis Rey Downs and could surprise; taking a huge class drop in here.
Phoebe's Song - Logical chalk gets a good parking lot post for going down the hillside course; Baze must conserve her energy.
Long Shot - Marmaida
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $47,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Coco Belle - Returns to the scene of her best races, albeit over an organic dirt track; should be ready for her best effort.
Swiss Diva - Dead late closer will sit a trip and hope some other fillies do her dirty work; like the turn back in distance.
Long Shot - True Xena
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Lonely Highway - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; should find this soft group to his liking.
Tradition - Underachieving Ellis charge is sent long for the first time on the main track; needs to grind out even fractions.
Long Shot - Judge Gallivan
Best Bet - Coco Belle (race 7)
Santa Anita Thursday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$35.20; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 32/9/$57.20; Long Shots, 16/2/$16.00; Best Bets, 2/0/$0
