Crate and Barrel coming to new Summerlin Centre

Crate and Barrel Home Store is coming to Summerlin Centre, the 1.4-million-square-foot regional retail center at the heart of the future "downtown of the master-planned community of Summerlin."

The Chicago-based retailer plans to build a 34,000-square-foot, two-level store offering its popular line of high-quality furniture and home accessories for dining, entertaining, cooking and decorating. This is Nevada's first-ever Crate and Barrel store.

According to Kevin Orrock, top division executive of The Howard Hughes Corporation, an affiliate of General Growth Properties and developer of Summerlin, this is the second major announcement for Summerlin Centre in less than two months.

"Nordstrom announced in March it is coming to Summerlin Centre as an anchor," said Orrock, "and we are delighted to add Crate and Barrel to the lineup. The community is buzzing with excitement following these two announcements."

Crate and Barrel was founded by Gordon and Carole Segal in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood in 1962.

Gordon Segal, Crate and Barrel chief executive officer, said, "For the last several years we have been looking for just the right opportunity to bring a Crate and Barrel Home Store to this important market. Our customers have been asking us to open a store in this area for some time, and we look forward to welcoming them to our new Summerlin Centre location. "Summerlin is the ideal location for Crate and Barrel to help the newly arrived and long-established homeowner to furnish and equip their home," Bucksbaum said.

Summerlin Centre is the social, civic and commercial heart for the 22,500-acre community of Summerlin. Plans for Summerlin Centre include a 100-acre community hub that combines 1.4 million square feet of shopping and dining all surrounding a series of grand public spaces.
