Tool, Aerosmith back in the saddle

Tool's dense, elaborate repertoire is akin to a heavy metal Rubik's Cube: an equally compelling and challenging head game that takes some time to figure out.

But for all the twists and turns inherent in the band's winding tunes, they're ultimately formed from simple constructs: power, precision and melody. It's a lot to decipher, but like all good puzzles, the exertion is its own reward.

See the band at 8 p.m. at The Pearl at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo. Tickets are $90-$128; call 942-7777.

Or you could ogle Steven Tyler for a good cause, when Aerosmith headlines the Concert for Lili Claire benefit show. The festivities start at 9 p.m. at The Mandalay Bay Events Centers, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $87-$187; call 632-7580.
