HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Expect Valkyr - Of those with experience, her debut race appears the best of all; not very impressed with the work of Garcia.

Hi Lily Hi Lo - She has been hanging around without kicking in a late rally; like that Talamo remains loyal for a second try.

Long Shot - Barbara's Love

Race 2 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $49,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Kalookan Dancer - If anyone is capable of going wire to wire, it's this filly; Valdivia will need to nurse her early on.

Lady Matilda - Has run two decent U.S. turf races without winning yet; big jockey switch to Nakatani, an A-1 grass rider.

Long Shot - Toppisme

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Why You Ask - May have needed the start, his first off a 2-month hiatus; I know the barn likes this horse a lot, more value.

I'm All Out - I'll try to beat the logical chalk because he has finished second four time in a row; that can be habit forming.

Long Shot - Barbecue Eddie

Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Topper's Smiling - Has run OK since claimed by Knapp two races ago; he drops her to her lowest class, a prime win maneuver.

Kissin Party - Logical chalk taking a serious class drop to face a much easier task; third start off a 3-month sabbatical.

Long Shot - Asian Eyes

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Like Running Water - Beaten favorite last time out drops in class in search of victory; bugboy Talamo takes the weight off.

Bullish Yield - Didn't run much last time out facing a much tougher field; his win two back is fast enough to upset these.

Long Shot - Karn

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Tumbaga - Claimed by underrated Kitchingman and spotted nicely to win right away; can turn the tables on favored Deputy Lad.

Deputy Lad - Has won three straight while climbing the claiming ladder; at some point he'll hit his head, but he's sharp now.

Long Shot - Careless Candidate

Race 7 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 4-year-olds and up

C'Mon Tiger - Ran miserably in last, so Baffert is taking the blinkers off today; chance to rebound here at a square price.

Awesome Gem - Logical chalk had the lead in deep stretch but got snookered late by a Frankel charge; will be sharper tonight.

Long Shot - He's the Rage

Race 8 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), $150,000 Cinema Breeders' Cup Handicap, 3-year-olds

Worldly - Has done just enough to win both of his U.S. starts; key is his races are better than looked, this is a nice 3-YO.

Golden Balls - Impressive U.S. winning debut for this short priced chalk; we'll see today if he was substance or style.

Long Shot - Gweebarra

Race 9 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Warren's Adventure - Like the parking lot post in this elongated sprint; Chavez can track the leaders and grind it out late.

Zoom Zip Zoom - Solid debut and now Glatt double drops her in class to win; Nakatani remains loyal, only drawback is the rail.

Long Shot - Queen of the Derby

Best Bet - Warren's Adventure (race 9)

Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$38.40; Long Shots, 8/3/$33.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.00

Hollywood Totals - 733/167/$1,107.00; Long Shots, 358/50/$521.00; Best Bets, 43/18/$73.20
