One man was killed and another was wounded while standing outside a home in North Las Vegas late Saturday.
The men were shot outside a house in the 6400 block of Starling Mesa Street near Centennial Parkway and Losee Road about 11 p.m., North Las Vegas police said.
Neighbors said that one of the victims had been renting the house for about two weeks and that a baby shower had been taking place at the home on the night of the shooting.
As of Sunday night, police didn't know the motive for the attack, said officer Sean Walker, a spokesman for the department.
The names and ages of the two victims were withheld by police Sunday.
The gunfire apparently wasn't confined to the immediate area of the victim's house. Bo Simmons, who lives about four houses away, had a bullet hole in the front of his home.
Simmons said the shooting didn't shake him.
"I'm not worried. I spent 23 years in the military," he said.
Another neighbor, Cameron Thomas, said he was at home watching "Snakes on a Plane" about 11 p.m. when he heard several shots ring out.
"I joked, 'That sounds like gunfire.' Then we kept watching the movie," he said.
About an hour later, a friend came by his house and told him that police had cordoned off his entire block.
Thomas, a resident of the area for about three years, said Starling Mesa Street "used to be quiet."
"I don't know what's going on these days," he said.
