51s shut down at Fresno

Chris Begg and Dan Giese combined to pitch a five-hitter, carrying the Fresno Grizzlies to a 7-1 victory over the Las Vegas 51s in the Pacific Coast League on Friday at Fresno, Calif.

Begg allowed one run and five hits in six innings, and Giese held the 51s hitless for the final three innings.

Las Vegas tied the game at 1 in the third inning when Larry Bigbie's single drove in Kelly Stinnett. Fresno answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on three hits, three walks and a sacrifice fly.

51s starter D.J. Houlton (2-2) gave up six hits and four runs in three innings.

The teams play the second game of their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. today.
