HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
La Mandonna - Making her third start off a 3-month hiatus; key for me is she has some back class to win this by memory.
Eye Candy Sandi - If this race were part of the pick 6, you'd need to hit the all button; has some tactical speed to use.
Long Shot - Mia Countess
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Pieces of Paradise - No trainer is hotter this meet than the Ellis barn; this gal made a premature move, similar to Hard Spun.
Friendly Type - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; Mulhall barn won with a $120 over the weekend.
Long Shot - Golden Venture
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Duty Roster - Start of the pick 6 with a $850k carryover; closer failed in last, but his race two back could upset these.
Our Partner - Ran well in last but was no match for the winner; switching to turf for the first time, should be a square price.
Long Shot - Rival Islands
Race 4 - 5 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Skipper Mike - Tepid chalk was well bet in debut and did not run badly; LaCroix adding blinkers on, expect some improvement.
Warren's Devonlane - Dropping in class from MSW to claiming and picks up Nakatani; goes with Lasix, they figure to be trying.
Long Shot - Clever Lady
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds
Unusual Suspect - Good try in last turf sprinting, now stretching out to a 2-turn mile; Baze will save ground and make one run.
Parko - Woke up last time with his best race in the U.S.; was flattered when both Silent Soul and Worldly won next time out.
Long Shot - Grey Rover
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Headcoach - Is sliding down the claiming ladder to this bottom level; from a winless, low percentage barn, you'll get value.
Dennybuck - Ran OK sprinting in last, now is stretching out for Spawr; can move forward in second race off a 2-month hiatus.
Long Shot - Weft
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds
Idiot Proof - Figures to be the most popular single of the pick 6; if he blows up, a lot of tickets will go down in flames.
Scat Thief - Runs first time as a gelding today; gets big-time class relief too, he can wake up in this first level condition.
Long Shot - Shem
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Star Quality - This pick 6 ends with the most open race of the day; this filly has a lot of back class going for her.
Sexy Operator - Third race off the claim by Kasparoff could be her best; can rebound with a more patient ride by Chavez.
Long Shot - Gotta Go Gal
Best Bet - Idiot Proof (race 7)
Hollywood Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$22.60; Long Shots, 9/1/$7.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.40
Hollywood Totals - 349/84/$540.80; Long Shots, 171/21/$232.00; Best Bets, 20/7/$29.60
