Cadence offers pickleball courts

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation, and its popularity is catching on in Henderson at Cadence, a 2,200-acre, master-planned community.

Recently opened pickleball courts at Cadence already have seen a few intense rivalries come to life, but the courts mostly are home to new players and casual aficionados.

Pickleball is an easy-to-learn and an easy-on-the-knees sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. Two, three or four people can play at once, hitting a perforated ball over a low net with solid paddles. First player or team to 11 points wins, but must win by at least two points. The court also can be used for badminton.

The community recently hosted a pickleball training session where residents had the opportunity to learn the basics of the sport from an instructor and enjoy supervised practice.

New Cadence resident Rachel Rigby enjoyed her first time playing.

“It’s a pretty good workout,” she said. “A great one to play with friends and still talk — it didn’t leave us completely breathless, and it was a lot of fun”

Cadence’s main pickleball court is in the community’s 50-acre Central Park, with a second, private court exclusive to the residents of active-adult community Heritage by Lennar.

“Pickleball is a great fit for the Cadence community – it’s new and different and something that all of our residents of every age and activity level can enjoy,” said Cheryl Gowan, spokesperson for The LandWell Co., developer of Cadence. “We are always working to bring new amenities to our residents that will help them stay healthy and happy and enjoy the great outdoors.”

In addition to the Central Park and pickleball court, Cadence is an outdoor lover’s haven, boasting 450 acres of open space, which includes a 100-acre sports park. The community offers a bike share program, free Wi-Fi in Central Park, and interconnects with the many Henderson bicycle and walking trails such as the Las Vegas Wash Trail and River Mountains Loop Trail.

The 13,250-home community offers a variety of residential neighborhoods with a broad cross-section of homes starting from the low $200,000s.
