14 vying for Henderson City Council vacancy

One of the Henderson City Council's more lengthy public meetings of the year could be held this month when 14 applicants take turns telling the council why they would be the best person to fill a midterm vacancy.

Former Ward 3 Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion resigned effective Jan. 3.

The City Council voted Dec. 20 to appoint her replacement rather than hold a special election, saving taxpayers at least $127,000.

Those seeking the post are:

Milton "Milt" Doyle, 62, Air Force retiree

Rich Dreschler, 69, retired banker
