186,849 have voted so far in county

By the end of Saturday, the biggest day of early voting yet, nearly 190,000 Clark County voters had gone to the polls, according to the Clark County Election Department.

Saturday's nearly 27,000 voters countywide were the most of any single day in the early voting period, of which eight of the 14 days have now elapsed.

Democrats continue to enjoy higher turnout than Republicans in Clark County. Of the 186,849 voters to go to the polls so far, 103,719 were Democrats and 52,850 were Republicans, with the rest nonpartisans or members of minor parties.

The numbers reflect only the party with which the voters are registered, not who is winning. However, polls generally find that about 80 percent of Democrats and Republicans support their parties' presidential candidates.

The election department also received 30,000 votes through mail ballots. There, Republicans enjoyed a slight advantage at 14,000 ballots compared with 12,500 for the Democrats.

Combining mail ballots and early voting, Democrats represented 54 percent of all county voters through the end of voting Saturday, while Republicans were 31 percent.

The last day to request a mail ballot is Tuesday. Completed mail ballots must be received by the Election Department by the time the polls close on Election Day, Nov. 4.

Early voting continues through Friday. Registered voters should consult the sample ballot they should have received in the mail for hours and locations. The election department can be reached online at www.accessclark county.com/depts/election or by calling 455-VOTE (8683).
