2-year-old boy found in pool dies
June 30, 2009 - 11:20 am
A 2-year-old boy found Sunday afternoon in a pool at a house near Flamingo Road and Jones Boulevard has died, Las Vegas police said Tuesday.
The toddler, identified as Dayne White by the Clark County coroner’s office, was found by his father at the house on the 6200 block of Newville Avenue.
The father pulled the boy from the pool and tried to administer CPR before paramedics took the toddler to a hospital, where he died Monday.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Child Abuse and Neglect Detail conducted an investigation and found no indication of foul play.
Investigators believe the boy wandered out of the family home through a back door and fell into the pool.
The door leading to the backyard was cracked open for the family pet.
There was no fence around the pool.
“It’s a tragic accident at this time,” said Lisa Teele, a civilian supervisor with the Child Abuse and Neglect Detail.
She said criminal charges will not be filed against the boy’s parents.
The toddler lived with his parents and three other children ages 4 to 10.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 2-year-old girl nearly drowned in a pool at 5216 Yellow Dawn Court, near Ann Road and Decatur Boulevard, a Las Vegas Fire Department spokeswoman said.
The girl was taken to a hospital but her condition was not available, the spokeswoman said.
Police are investigating the 4:25 p.m. incident.
Sunday’s incident was the second drowning of a young child in Las Vegas this year.
In March, 3-year-old Hannah Nicole Bridges drowned in a pool near Silverado Ranch Boulevard and Spencer Street.
The girl also wandered to the pool outside a house and fell in, Las Vegas police spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said.
Teele said there were six such deaths last year in the department’s jurisdiction.
