Seven local businesses came up clean Monday when police conducted a series of controlled underage alcohol buys, Boulder City police said Tuesday.
Officers sent an individual under 21 into alcohol-selling establishments to purchase the age-restricted beverages.
“If the clerk or alcohol server requests a form of identification, the person presents their real Nevada identification card or license indicating their true age,” a police spokesman said.
None of the seven businesses sold to the minor.
The businesses were the 7-Eleven stores at 849 Nevada Way and 900 Utah St., Albertsons at 1008 Nevada Way, the CVS at 800 Buchanan Blvd., Eric’s Smoke & Gift Shop at 1020 Nevada Highway, the Shell at 1004 Nevada Way, Dale’s Sinclair at 1625 Nevada Highway, and Vons at 1031 Nevada Highway.
The operation was funded by a grant through Nevada’s Enforcement of Underage Drinking Law’s program.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared underage drinking “a major health problem,” stating that alcohol is the “most commonly used and abused drug” among the youth of the United States.
Eleven percent of all alcohol consumed in the U.S. is by minors ages 12 to 20, according to the centers.
Also, underage drinkers consume more drinks per drinking occasion than adults.
Clerks who sell alcohol to minors are issued a misdemeanor citation for furnishing alcohol to a minor. It includes a bail amount of $637.
