21-year-old killed in crash involving motorcycle, SUV

A 21-year-old man died Thursday after his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle, Las Vegas police said.

The collision occurred about 12:11 p.m. on Sandhill Road north of Desert Inn Road. Police said 44-year-old Mabel Armas was driving a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo north on Sandhill. The motorcyclist, who was not identified, was southbound on a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja.

Police said Armas turned left in front of the motorcyclist who lost control and slid into the right side of Armas' vehicle.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The death was the 22nd traffic fatality in 2009 under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police.
