3G iPhone is in the house

He finally got it.
My son Ben has been waiting very patiently for his 3G iPhone, and he got the call yesterday that he could trek to the AT&T Store to pick it up. The store at Decatur and Sahara had only a handful of customers when we got there about 4:30 p.m., and we were out of there well before 5 p.m., as the pick-up and activation process was very smooth.
It's still early, but Ben is having a lot of fun with the Apps store. He found one totally mindless application called "Cowbell" that's a spin-off from the classic "It needs more cowbell" Will Ferrell Saturday Night Live skit. One frustration is the fact the new phone has different physical dimensions, meaning the protective cover he has for his first-generation phone doesn't fit.
He'll be passing along his old phone to a friend, which requires the new owner to go to an AT&T company store for activation and signing a service contract.
One option that those with old iPhones they want to unload is the FreeiPhoneSwap.com site. It turns out there's a heavy demand for the first generation iPhones, and people are paying a premium for them -- perhaps as much, or more, than the price of the new iPhone.
See David Gallagher's blog on the New York Times for more details on how best to unload your old iPhone.
