54-year-old dies in crash

A 54-year-old motorist whose vehicle struck a Chevrolet Suburban head-on at Arville Street near Harmon Avenue early Sunday morning died, authorities said.

The driver was traveling north on Arville in a 1996 Nissan Sentra about 12:45 a.m. when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and hit the suburban, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Elmer Amaya, 29, and his passenger, Carmen Jimenez, 21, were taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries. Police said alcohol might have been a factor in the collision.
