65 Christmas trees stolen from Gardnerville lot

GARDNERVILLE — A Grinch has made off with thousands of dollars in Christmas trees from a Gardnerville tree lot.

According to a report filed with the Douglas County sheriff’s office, an employee who stayed at the lot in an RV woke up Monday to find a wire fence around the trees had been cut. The police report says tire tracks appeared to indicate a vehicle backed up to the downed fence.

About 65 trees owned by Oregon-based Ferguson Farms were stolen at the lot along U.S. 395 near Industrial Way.

Ken Ferguson of Ferguson Farms said he believes his tree lots are targeted because he charges less money and often gives trees away to people who can’t afford them.
