’93 bombing figure arrested in Oregon

WINSTON, Ore. -- A man convicted in the 1993 bombing of a Nevada state trooper has been arrested in southern Oregon, where police allege he was selling firearms out of a thrift shop.

Douglas County sheriff's spokesman Dwes Hutson said 69-year-old Avrom Finkel was booked into jail Monday on several counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bail was set at $500,000.

Trooper Ken Gager lost an eye and his left hand when a package delivered to his Minden home on Sept. 8, 1993, exploded as he opened it in his kitchen.

Finkel mailed the package at the request of a man who had been arrested by the trooper.

Hutson said deputies and Winston police seized more than 40 firearms from Finkel's shop, including assault rifles, World War II battle rifles, handguns and shotguns.

Finkel was sentenced to 80 years in federal prison for mailing the package, but after he appealed the case, the sentence was reduced to 12 years in prison.
