FLEMING'S TO HOST J. LOHR
WINEMAKER DINNER

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8721 W. Charleston Blvd., plans to host a J. Lohr winemaker dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

J. Lohr is a winery with sustainable growing practices. Steve Peck, the winemaker, will be on hand for the four-course dinner.

The menu is set to feature scallop ceviche, duck confit spinach salad, filet with smoked jalapeno blackberry sauce and pear and cranberry cobbler.

Project Dinner Table coming to Las Vegas Design Center Saturday

The next Project Dinner Table event is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Design Center at the World Market Center's 16th-floor rooftop terrace, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway. Chef Roy Ellamar of Sensi at Bellagio will prepare the six-course meal.

Guests will dine together at one long table draped in white linens. The evening is set to include live music, cocktails, poetry and craft seasonal beers to pair with the local ingredients.

Saturday's dinner will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

Taste of the Nation coming to the Palms May 19

Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation Las Vegas is planned for May 19 at Rain nightclub inside the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road.

The event will feature Las Vegas' hottest chefs and mixologists and more than 35 restaurants pairing cuisine with signature cocktails to raise funds to fight childhood hunger.

Learn to roll sushi at Hachi

Hachi Modern Japanese, inside Red Rock Resort at 11011 W. Charleston Blvd., offers monthly sushi rolling classes. The next one is set for 6:30 p.m. May 19.

The two-hour class will offer each participant his or her own work area with all ingredients at arm's length. The cost is $85 per person, plus tax.

Barbecue championships coming to The Orleans may 21 and 22

The USA Barbecue Championships and food festival are planned for May 21 and 22 at The Orleans, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.

More than 100 of the world's top-ranked professional grilling teams, including those representing 43 states, six teams from Canada and one from Tokyo, will vie for their piece of the largest barbecue purse, totaling $125,000 in prizes.

The competition will feature four categories: brisket, chicken, ribs and pork butt. Local barbecue teams Trailhound Smoker BBQ, Sin City Smokers and The Smokin' B.A.R. are set to compete from the South for a top prize of $25,000.

The event also will feature professional and amateur barbecue cook-offs, barbecue vendors, an expo, live music and a kids' play zone. The UNLV Ribba Ramma Amateur Rib Cook-Off also is planned on the event grounds, and for a $10 donation, attendees can sample ribs, with all donations supporting athletics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Admission to the festival is free from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 21 and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 22.

Panera Bread donates funds to Children's Miracle Network

Panera Bread recently donated $18,704.70 to the Children's' Miracle Network through Panera Bread's Operation 2Dough-Nation. The funds will be used to further the network's mission of caring for children and families stricken by illness. The check was presented to the network at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson.

Operation Dough-Nation donates a portion of customers donations made in the Community Breadbox containers near the registers, which it matches with cash for distribution to local charities. At the end of the day, local cafes also donate unsold bread and baked goods to local hunger relief agencies through the company's Day-End Dough-Nation program.

Les Kincaid, UNLV announce wine and cooking classes

Wine radio show host Les Kincaid and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas plan to present a series of wine and cooking classes from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on select dates in May.

Garlic Lover's Feast is scheduled for today at the Ferguson Bath & Kitchen Gallery, 4175 S. Grand Canyon Drive, Suite 109. Learn to use garlic in a multitude of recipes.

There's More Than Chardonnay! is scheduled for Wednesday at Total Wine & More in Boca Park. Explore the richness of choices available to aficionados of the white grape, from light and fresh sparkling wines to deep and rich dessert wines. This class is for students 21 or older.

This class can be taken alone or as part of the series. The cost is $45 per person.

Grilling, part two of the series, is scheduled for May 25 at the Ferguson Bath & Kitchen Gallery. Learn proper methods of grilling everything from fish, seafood and meat to vegetables. Find out the difference between grilling and barbecuing. The cost is $55 per person.

The third class, Barbecuing, is scheduled for June 1 at the Ferguson Bath & Kitchen Gallery. Learn proper methods of barbecuing, including direct and indirect smoking. The cost is $55 per person.

Gordon Biersch serving Asian-influenced menu

Gordon Biersch Brewery restaurants plan to serve a Maibock menu, complementing Maibock beer and the Mai Tai cocktail, for a limited time.

Maibock is a classic German handcrafted lager and is Gordon Biersch's traditional celebration of the arrival of spring.

The menu is inspired by Asia and Hawaii and features appetizers of teriyaki Kobe slilders, garlic edamame and the Pacific Rim combo, which allows guests to try the sliders, shrimp and chicken potstickers, edamame and breaded shrimp with sweet chili sauce. Entrees include Asian chicken salad, Hawaiian Kobe burger, Asian orange chicken, ponzu salmon, udon noodle bowl and Hawaiian rib-eye, which is accompanied by mashed potatoes, grilled pineapple and vegetables. Desserts include banana spring rolls with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauces.

The menu is available through Sunday.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse to serve dining specials

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, 8721 W. Charleston Blvd., is offering a Memorable Meal for Two for $125 per couple through Sunday. The three-course dinner has Chateaubriand and lobster en fuego, salad, side dishes and dessert.

A nightly prix fixe meal is $39.95 for three courses, with a chef-selected entree, choice of soup or salad and a choice of dessert.

Wine Walk to raise funds for New Vista Community

A Wine Walk to benefit New Vista Community is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. May 21 at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

New Vista Community is a nonprofit group that provides equal opportunities and support for the intellectually challenged people of all ages.

The cost is $25 per person in advance or $30 for a single ticket or two for $50 at the door.

Carl's Jr. partners with March of Dimes, Las Vegas 51s for fundraisers

Carl's Jr. locations across the Las Vegas Valley are collecting donations for the March of Dimes through May 23.

Any customer who donates $1 will receive a special cutout to sign and display, along with food coupons. Last year Carl's Jr. raised $40,000 for the organization, which supports research, awareness programs, local hospitals and families affected by the outcomes of premature births.

Carl's Jr. also is partnering with the Las Vegas 51s baseball team. While supplies last, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson locations are giving one ticket to a 51s game to customers for free, upon request, with the purchase of any large combo. The 51s also are selling a Family Four Pack with four game tickets, four Carl's Jr. $4 food coupons and four 51s hats for $36.

Cheeburger cheeburger to celebrate Hamburger Month in May

Cheeburger Cheeburger, 8390 S. Rainbow Blvd., plans to mark National Hamburger Month in May by offering a buy-one-get-one-half-off deal on its 100 percent Angus beef burgers.

Cheeburger's Invent Your Own Taste menu allows patrons to select from five sizes of burger, 15 to 27 toppings and 10 types of cheese, all at no additional charge. Burgers are made fresh to order, and the menu includes fresh fries and onion rings. There are more than 150 different flavors of milkshakes, which patrons can add flavors and toppings to at no extra cost.

The restaurant has a 1950s and '60s theme with neon lights and signs, posters and music from the era.
