A PayPal follow-up

A couple of clarifications on my Sunday column about PayPal Mobile.

I inferred that PayPal Mobile was the No. 1 method for mobile payments in the United Kingdom and has climbed to No. 2 in the United States, behind Visa. These statistics are not related to PayPal Mobile, but to PayPal online.

I also said that PayPal Mobile is available as a free download in the BlackBerry App World. Instead, PayPal is the payment mechanism for the BlackBerry App World, not an application. Customers purchasing applications at the BlackBerry App World will use PayPal for the transaction.

------
I also heard from a reader who is the victim of a scammer posing as PayPal. The reader received an e-mail that appeared to come from PayPal, but instead was a hoax. Scammers frequently target PayPal in their hoaxes. Anyone receiving an unsolicited message from PayPal — or any other Web site — should never click on any links in the message or reply to the message.

You should forward suspicious messages to "spoof@paypal.com" and then delete the message from your inbox.
