Afflalo up; Plaisted plummets

One of the most impressive players at the NBA Summer League has been the Detroit Pistons’ Arron Afflalo, a second-year guard from UCLA.

Afflalo scored 18 points in the Pistons’ loss to the Milwaukee Bucks today. He scored 25 points Sunday in a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

One of the most disappointing players has been Trent Plaisted, a 6-foot-11-inch rookie forward from Brigham Young.

The way Plaisted is playing, he’ll be lucky to stick in the NBA Development League. Plaisted went scoreless with one rebound in 15 minutes against the Bucks.

The Pistons traded for Plaisted, who was a second-round pick. It won’t be remembered as one of Joe Dumars’ greatest moves.

Plaisted, a constant underachiever in the Mountain West Conference, should be at BYU for his senior year. He might be playing in Turkey instead.

STUCKEY OUT — Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey sat out today’s game with a sore toe. Stuckey had a memorable performance in the Eastern Conference finals. He came off the bench to score 24 points in 17 minutes to help the Pistons win Game 2 in Boston.
