‘Annie’ to open Super Summer Theatre on June 8 at Spring Mountain Ranch

A summer tradition for many Southern Nevadans is to enjoy a theater production under the stars at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Super Summer Theatre opens its 35th season with a performance of the classic musical "Annie" on June 8. The timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie will run through June 25.

Other summer plays include: the musical comedy "The Drowsy Chaperone," July 13--30; "Fiddler on the Roof," Aug. 10--27; and "Five Guys Named Moe," Sept. 8--24. Performances begin at 8 p.m. for the June, July and August shows. The September production begins at 7 p.m.

Performances began at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park in the summer of 1976 with actors doubling as ticket sellers, park rangers directing traffic and patrons boarding buses to travel to the performance area. Super Summer Theater has continued to grow through the years with its offerings becoming not only bigger, but better, and community involvement has made Super Summer Theater an experience to which families throughout Nevada look forward to as the weather heats up.

Tickets for the 2011 season are on sale and can be purchased in person at UNLV Performing Arts Center box office, by calling 895-ARTS or going online to UNLVtickets.com. Tickets are also available at Prestige Travel at Lake Mead Boulevard and Buffalo Drive . Tickets are $12, if purchased in advance, and $15 if purchased at the gate on the date of performance, subject to availability. Children 5 and under are free.

General parking opens at about 5 p.m. and meadow seating opens at 6 p.m. The main gate closes at 8:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic dinners, snacks, beverages and regular folding or patio chairs. High-back chaise lounges, sand chairs and pets (except for service animals) are not allowed. The concession stand sells a variety of items, including hot dogs, nachos, soda, water, ice cream and candy. Chairs are available for rent at $1.
