Applications for domestic partnerships accepted starting Monday

CARSON CITY — Secretary of State Ross Miller announced today that his office will begin accepting applications for same- and opposite-sex couples who wish to register as domestic partners beginning Monday.

By making the applications now, the domestic partnerships will receive their certificates of domestic partnerships on Oct. 1, the day the law goes into effect.

Applications are available on the secretary of state's Web site, www.nvsos.gov. There is a $50 fee and the applications must be notarized.

By becoming domestic partners, couples will secure the same legal rights as married couples.

"October 1 will be an historic day in Nevada," Miller said. "We would like as many couples as possible to be part of it by having their certificates in hand. My office will work hard to make it a special day for them."
