Arizona man gets 141 years in prison

Bernard Stewart, 45, of Wikieup, Ariz., who used religion to justify matching his family members in sexual relations with each other and himself was sentenced to 141.5 years in prison Thursday.

Stewart pleaded guilty to 17 felony charges related to abuse of his wife and children.

Prosecutor Megan McCoy said Stewart had his preteen son and teenage daughter engage in sexual relations with each other and with their mother.

The Mohave County sheriff's office said the woman fled their home with her children after they nearly starved while eating birdseed, rabbits and burro meat in a lifestyle imposed by Stewart.

During his change of plea hearing in November, the biggest concern articulated by Stewart was making certain he would stay on his manic depression and bipolar disorder medications in prison.
