Arizona man killed after being struck by driver who ran light

A 78-year-old man from Arizona died Monday after his vehicle was struck by a driver who ran a red light near East Sahara Avenue and Commercial Center, Las Vegas police said.

Police did not identify the deceased, but said the man was from Fort Mohave, Ariz. The collision occurred about 3:07 p.m.

Police said 54-year-old Eloisa Taqueban of Las Vegas was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty when she ran a red light at the Sahara and Commercial Center intersection. Police said she hit the elderly driver’s 2009 Ford Focus, which was southbound on Commercial Center. The driver was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he pronounced dead, police said.

Taqueban, and a passenger, 66-year-old Carol Gold of Las Vegas, were also taken to Sunrise. Police did not specify if they were injured. Police also didn’t specify which vehicle Gold was in.

Police didn’t say if Taqueban was cited. The collision — the 54th traffic-related fatality under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police — remains under investigation.
