Atlanta man, 33, drowns at Lake Mohave

A 33-year-old Atlanta man drowned Saturday while swimming at Lake Mohave, authorities said.

Rangers received a call at 3 p.m. from a woman who said she had been swimming at the lake with her husband and had lost sight of him, said Roxanne Dey, spokeswoman for Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Rangers arrived on the scene on the Arizona side of Lake Mohave across from Cottonwood Cove within six minutes and began searching for the man, Dey said.

By Saturday evening, rangers had located the body, and divers from the National Park Service and Metropolitan Police Department were working to recover it.

The man and woman, both from Atlanta, had been boating with four young relatives from California and a dog, Dey said.

When a wind came up, the woman swam to shore with one of the children and when she reached shore her husband was not visible.

The park service will investigate the incident.
