Authorities suspect tread separation in fatal I-15 wreck

One person was killed, and six people were injured, after a sport utility vehicle overturned Friday night on Interstate 15 near Mesquite.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers said five children between the ages of 6 and 16 were on board the 2003 Chevrolet Blazer with Utah plates when it was traveling south and rolled over into the median about 7 p.m.

Six people were thrown from the vehicle near mile marker 102.

Two people were taken by helicopter to local hospitals. The rest were taken by ambulance. The conditions of the people and their ages weren't available Friday night.

Investigators suspect the tread on the vehicle's left rear tire might have separated, causing the vehicle to lose control. The crash remains under investigation.
