Baby among seven injured in fire

Seven people were hurt, including an 8-month-old baby, in a two-alarm blaze Monday afternoon at an apartment complex east of the Strip, fire officials said.

A neighbor rescued the child, who was at University Medical Center with third-degree burns over 50 percent of her body, according to Scott Allison, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department. The infant also was suffering from breathing problems, Allison said.

Five other people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and minor burns, and one person was treated at the scene and not taken to a hospital, Allison said.

The cause of the 1:05 p.m. blaze at the Sonoma Shadows complex, 1950 E. Karen Ave., and the estimated damage amount remained under investigation late Monday.
