Bicycle advocacy group recognizes city of Las Vegas, others
The city of Las Vegas, two bicycle stores and the Cashman Equipment Co. were recognized Thursday as bicycle-friendly businesses in the Las Vegas-Henderson area by a national bicycle advocacy organization.
The Washington, D.C.-based League of American Bicyclists awarded bronze awards to the city of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Cyclery bike shop in Summerlin and Cashman Equipment Co. in Henderson. The Bike Shop in Henderson was awarded a silver award.
With the announcement of 90 new bicycle friendly businesses Thursday in 29 states and Washington, D.C., the city of Las Vegas and the three businesses join a group of more than 600 businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the U.S. in receiving the honor.
“Being bike friendly is good for Las Vegas,” Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said.
“We encourage bicycling as healthy, sustainable, and an easy option for transportation.” she said. “We provide amenities such as convenient bike racks at our facilities, as well as bikes and helmets for employees to use when they need transportation during work hours, helping to preserve our air quality and reduce traffic congestion.”
Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists, offered this statement: “The city of Las Vegas is leading the way to a healthier and more sustainable future. While helping boost the economy in their communities, Bicycle Friendly Businesses are also investing in a happier and more productive work force.”
