A bicyclist was killed after he darted into traffic and into the path of a car near downtown this afternoon.

Las Vegas police said the 50-year-old man was riding a mountain bike on the sidewalk heading north on Main Street at Bonanza Road. He left the sidewalk and crossed into traffic and was hit by a 2006 Toyota Camry that was heading south on Main at 12:25 p.m., police said.

The driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Sandra Gonzalez-Sandoval of South Gate, Calif., had a green signal and was unable to stop, police said. The bicyclist, whose name was not released, was taken to University Medical Center where he died.
