A severely decomposed body was found Wednesday afternoon in a ravine near a road leading to Lee Canyon, Las Vegas police said.
The Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Section is investigating the incident.
"We can't tell what ethnicity the body is. We can't tell whether the body is male or female," Lt. Lew Roberts said. "We'll know more after the autopsy."
Roberts said the Clark County coroner's office is expected to perform the autopsy today.
The body was seen by a motorcyclist who called 911 about 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said. The body was found near state Route 156, mile marker 12.
Roberts said the autopsy should show whether the person found was the victim of a homicide.
