Body of man who tried to save struggling swimmer retrieved

The body of a North Las Vegas man who is thought to have drowned was found Sunday on the Nevada side of Lake Mohave, a spokeswoman for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area said.

Park spokeswoman Roxanne Dey said 52-year-old Michael Evans Henderson's body was found about 11:30 a.m. by park rangers and the Metropolitan Police Department's Search and Rescue personnel.

The exact cause of Henderson's death will be determined by the Clark County coroner's office, Dey said.

Henderson was last seen alive Saturday night near Six-Mile Cove on the Nevada side of the lake, south of Cottonwood Cove.

Reports of the possible drowning were made to officials about 7 p.m. Saturday.

They were told two people were swimming and having difficulty reaching the shore.

The woman, whose identity was not released, was struggling in the water.

Henderson went out to help her, park officials said.

Henderson and the woman were not wearing life jackets.

The woman made it back to shore and was airlifted to Valley Hospital Medical Center.
