Boy, 12, shot in possible gang-related shooting

A 12-year-old boy was shot in the face but survived the apparent gang-related shooting Tuesday afternoon at his home near Lake Mead and Jones boulevards.

Las Vegas police said the boy answered the door about 3:10 p.m. at his home at 6245 Don Zarembo Ave. and was shot.

Police were still searching for at least one suspect in his early teens late in the afternoon.

Police said the boy is thought to have known the shooter. The boy's injuries were described as non-life threatening.

The shooting happened in an older neighborhood with single-story homes and children playing in the street.

A neighbor who didn't want to be identified for fear of retribution said he was driving home from work and saw two boys walk up to the home. After the neighbor pulled into his driveway and was walking up to the front door, he heard a single gunshot.

He said he saw the boy, with blood over his face, walk to the ambulance with paramedics before he was taken to University Medical Center.

"It's time to move," the neighbor said.
