Boy, 13, gets life in prison for Reno shooting death

RENO -- A 13-year-boy has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in the sidewalk shooting death of a Reno musician.

District Judge Patrick Flanagan added another six to 15 years to the sentence imposed Friday on Jose Cruz for the May 8 killing of Steve Gale, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Cruz pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Gale and two friends were walking home when they were approached by Cruz and two brothers, Jacob and Luis Sanchez. Gale was shot when he tried to prevent them from stealing his friend's purse.

The Sanchez brothers face trial in April.

Twenty-two-year-old Aurora Rodriguez-Perez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last week. She admitted driving the trio around looking for people to rob at gunpoint.
