Boy, 5, bitten by bullmastiff
A 5-year-old boy is in serious condition after being bitten by a large dog Wednesday night.
Two children, a 12-year-old girl and the boy, were bitten just after 5 p.m. Wednesday in the northeast valley by two bullmastiffs, which can weigh in excess of 100 pounds.
The children were bitten in the 4000 block of Abrams Avenue, near Lamb Boulevard and Washington Avenue. The dogs somehow got loose from a home a few houses away from where the children were bitten, a city official said.
The 5-year-old boy had lacerations to his head and was taken to University Medical Center where police said he was listed in serious condition. It was unclear whether the lacerations were caused by the bite or through other means.
The girl was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with superficial injuries, police said.
The two canines were taken to Lied Animal Shelter and are on 10-day hold while the city investigates the incident.
