Boy killed crossing Beltway

A boy running across the Las Vegas Beltway near Charleston Boulevard was killed Monday night after he was struck by a car, Nevada Highway Patrol officials said.

The boy was running across the southbound highway lanes about 7 p.m. with three or four other juveniles when he when was hit by a man driving a Pontiac Grand Am, said trooper Kevin Honea.

The car's driver cooperated with authorities, voluntarily submitting to a blood test for drugs or alcohol, Honea said.

Honea said state law prohibits walking or running alongside or across highways.
