Bucks guard in summer Sessions
After three years at UNR, Ramon Sessions decided he was ready for bigger things than Reno. As it turns out, he’s taking summer courses in Las Vegas, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Sessions made an early leap to the NBA, and it seemed to be a premature one.
A 6-foot-3-inch point guard, he was selected in the second round, 56th overall, by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2007 draft. He spent time in the NBA Development League with the Tulsa 66ers, which seemed to be proof that he should have stayed in school.
But Sessions still thinks he made a wise move, and he might be right.
“No question. I felt like I made the best decision I could have made,” he said. “I didn’t think I would slip to the second round, but it’s working out for the best.”
Sessions displayed smooth all-around skills in today’s first game, compiling 21 points, six rebounds and four assists to help the Bucks beat the Detroit Pistons 73-59 in the NBA Summer League at Cox Pavilion.
After the game, new Bucks coach Scott Skiles walked by to compliment Sessions on his play.
Sessions’ rookie season in the real NBA was not a lost cause. He played in 17 games and started seven for the Bucks, while averaging 8.1 points and 7.5 assists. His best game came on April 14, when he scored 20 points and had a franchise-record 24 assists — with only two turnovers — in a 151-135 loss to the Chicago Bulls.
“I felt like I contributed to the team, and it meant a lot to me,” he said. “What more could you ask for? This is like living a dream.”
